Has your teen asked you about Invisalign when the time came for a Edmonton Orthodontist Consultation? You’re probably not the only parent that’s gotten this question.

Invisalign has become very popular among teens and young adults for a variety of reasons. Here’s why it’s such an attractive option for orthodontic treatment, and what you as a parent need to know about a treatment plan with Invisalign!

Clear Aligners Will Boost Their Confidence At a Crucial Time

Your teen may be facing a dilemma; they want straight, healthy teeth, but they don’t want to wear braces during the better part of their teenage years.

Even though there’s nothing wrong with traditional braces and they align teeth just as well as they always have, Invisalign may be a good fit for them.

Clear aligners are almost completely transparent, and nearly undetectable when being worn. This allows your child to gain all the benefits of traditional orthodontic treatment, while still flying under the radar.

Teenagers and young adults love Invisalign for the discreet look and comfortable fit. Having clear aligners can keep their confidence up, won’t stop them from going out with their friends, speaking up in class, or participating in any of the other activities they love.

You Can Track Their Progress

Invisalign can be removed at any time for eating, drinking, and cleaning – so how will you know your investment is being protected, and your teen is wearing their aligners as often as they should?

Your teen’s clear aligners will come equipped with blue compliance indicators. These indicators will slowly fade away and will be invisible when your child is compliant with the wear schedule, which is a minimum of 22 hours per day in order for their treatment to be effective and remain on schedule.

If they aren’t worn for long enough, the indicators will remain blue to send a message to us and to you that it’s time to have a serious chat with them about the importance of wearing their Invisalign. These indicators will help keep everyone accountable and give you peace of mind that your money has been well spent, and your teen is on the right track to a brilliant, healthy smile!

You Won’t Have to Change What You Cook

When someone in your household has braces, it typically demands some sort of change to what dinners and snacks consist of. This can complicate meal times, especially if your teen is a bit of a picky eater. There are a number of foods to avoid with metal braces.

Invisalign provides some relief in this particular situation. Your teen will be able to remove their clear aligners for meals, meaning they can eat or snack on anything they like!

Make sure to remind them to brush their teeth after every meal or snack before they put their Invisalign back in. It’s easy for food, particles and bacteria to get trapped in the tight spaces between their teeth and the aligner, which could result in poor oral health if they aren’t careful about it. Lack of brushing and proper oral care could also stain their aligners, which would ruin the benefit of discretion that they have!

Invisalign is Comfortable and Safe

Patients often report that clear aligners are more comfortable than traditional braces, and are backed by extremely detailed and well-developed technology.

We use something called iTero scanning to get detailed scans of your child’s teeth before we proceed with creating their aligners. This helps us diagnose their malocclusions more accurately, tells us exactly what they need, and even shows a projection of their treatment plan so we have all the information we need about them before proceeding. It’s a safe, thorough, and effective way to achieve a successful orthodontic treatment we can’t wait for them to benefit from.
