Orthodontics

Orthodontic braces are bonded to your teeth in order to move them into the desired positions outlined in your custom orthodontic treatment plan. They work to straighten the teeth, as well as improve the patient’s overall health through improved oral hygiene. Orthodontic braces are often made of metal, porcelain, or plastic. The composition will vary based on your diagnosis, and your treatment plan.

The best thing about orthodontic treatment is that it doesn’t exclude – anyone can pursue a healthy, better smile. There’s a common misconception that braces are just for kids and teenagers, but more and more adults are making the switch. Adults even tend to take orthodontic treatment more seriously due to the expense and responsibility, meaning it’s possible you may even get more out of it by pursuing it later in life. Explore our many orthodontic options for children, teens, and adults, and learn what you can expect from each treatment.

Early Orthodontic Treatment

The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends children have their first orthodontic consultation at the age of seven. By this time, the first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in – this early phase of treatment is known as early or preventative orthodontics.

Dentofacial Orthopedics

Also known as growth modification, dentofacial orthopedics involves guiding the facial growth and development in children. The goal is to achieve proper balance and structure of the facial bones and jaw, as well as any surrounding muscle and soft tissues.

Orthodontics for Adults

Getting orthodontic treatment as an adult can actually do wonders for your overall health. Not only that, but a beautiful, healthy smile will definitely give you more confidence. Adult orthodontic treatment may help you avoid costly restoration down the road. Crooked teeth increase your chances of having plaque and food build up, and make it very difficult to properly clean your teeth.

Clear Braces

Although some people use this term to refer to Invisalign, clear braces are actually similar to the traditional metal braces you’re familiar with, and work just as well. Unlike metal braces, these are made of ceramic and are white or tooth colored to help the brackets blend in to the natural shade of the teeth. The best thing about this ceramic is it’s generally non staining, so your brackets will always be discreet.

Surgical Orthodontics

This is intended to correct any jaw irregularities. These irregularities can affect your ability to chew, talk, sleep, and breathe. Surgical orthodontics, jaw surgery, or orthognathic surgery fixes all of these problems, while also correcting facial appearance.

TMD Treatment

Your temporomandibular joints (TMJs) connect your lower jawbone to your skull. TMD, or temporomandibular disorder, occurs when there are problems with the muscles and jaw joints in the face. We can treat TMD and relieve symptoms through a variety of methods, including orthopedic appliances, medication, stress management techniques, and more.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep apnea can prevent you from achieving deep sleep, potentially disrupting your everyday life. Treatment for sleep apnea depends on the type, and the severity of the case. Oral devices can be used to position the mouth in a way that prevents throat blockage. In more severe cases, surgery may become necessary.

Invisalign

Invisalign, also referred to as clear aligners, has become an extremely popular and wildly effective alternative to traditional metal braces. These discreet clear aligners work in a series of trays, each tray adding slightly more pressure to your teeth in order to gradually guide them into the desired positions. Invisalign is entirely customized for you, with each tray manufactured to represent each completely customized phase of your treatment plan.

Your smile journey doesn’t have to be obvious. Learn how you can get the same results braces give with a series of almost invisible clear aligners.

Invisalign Teens

Teens love the discreet look of Invisalign. High school and social events can be hard enough without the added stress of braces, and being able to correct a crooked smile in secret can be a huge perk. As a parent, you can track their progress through compliance indicators that show you how much or how little their aligners are being worn, so you know they’re getting the most out of their treatment.

Invisalign for Adults

Adults can benefit from clear aligners, too. If you had orthodontic treatment at a young age and your teeth shifted back, or you’re just looking to fix crooked teeth for hygiene and health reasons, Invisalign is a great and comfortable option. Invisalign can give you an edge at work, during job interviews, on dates, and can give you the confidence to pursue your goals and succeed.

Why Invisalign?

Invisalign improves your smile and bite pattern using clear, customized, and removable aligners instead of traditional wires and brackets. Teens and adults are opting for this convenient and flexible treatment option. One of the biggest ways Invisalign draws users in is the added benefit of being virtually invisible, and extremely discreet. Clear aligners give you the option to smile confidently and freely, without having to second guess the look of your smile.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign helps you achieve a beautiful smile without the traditional metal brackets and wires that accompany braces. Invisalign may be more comfortable and discreet. Patients love being able to eat whatever they want, smile with confidence, all while getting closer to a healthy, straight smile.

How Do I Get Invisalign Treatment?

Like all orthodontic treatment, your orthodontist will first make sure that you’re a proper candidate for Invisalign. The aligners are incredibly versatile with the ability to treat a variety of common dental irregularities, but just to be on the safe side, we’ll complete a thorough examination so we know with absolute certainty that Invisalign is right for you.

The Invisalign Process

Our orthodontist will complete a comprehensive orthodontic examination to determine whether Invisalign® is right for you. We’ll take x-rays, pictures, and digital impressions of your teeth using an iTero scanner. Our orthodontist will use this information to develop a detailed treatment plan. When you come in for the delivery appointment, our team will show you how to wear the aligners and how to care for them.

Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dental care ensures that your child’s oral hygiene is being taken care of and well maintained early on, minimizing the risk of tooth decay, cavities, and other oral diseases. It’s recommended that your child see a dentist when their first tooth comes in, which usually happens before the age of one. Cavities are the most common infectious disease in Canadian children, and can progress very quickly in baby teeth.

Our pediatric specialists are child dentists who use child-friendly language and behavior management skills within a clinic that’s designed to make children feel at ease. We understand that dental visits for your child can be nerve-wracking and anxiety inducing, and do our best to make them feel as comfortable and at ease as possible during their visit. Our child friendly environment keeps your child happy and comfortable every time they visit our office.

Preventive Pediatric Dental Care

Preventative dental care is important for all ages, but is especially important for children. Visiting the dentist from a young age encourages your child to develop healthy habits and hopefully avoid cavities and extensive dental treatment down the line.

Prevention of Cavities for Kids

Regularly brushing and flossing the teeth can help prevent cavities, but what else can be done? Some additional prevention options include sealants, fluoride and MI paste.

Oral Hygiene for Children

Dental care should be incorporated into your child’s life as early and as efficiently as possible. By the time your child turns 1-2 years of age, you should be scheduling an appointment with a pediatric dentist so they can be evaluated, and have any plaque or build up removed from their teeth by a professional. This is important as buildup can lead to unhealthy bacteria in the mouth, which can eventually lead to tooth decay if left for too long.

Pacifier and Thumb Sucking

It’s completely normal for babies and very young children to suck on their thumbs, fingers, toys, or blankets. If, however, this habit continues past the age of three, it can affect the way the teeth and jaws are growing. It could even lead to orthodontic issues down the road, as thumb-sucking habits often turn into open bites that need to be corrected with braces.

Treatment under Laughing Gas Sedation

Laughing gas is a mild and safe form of sedation used for kids of all ages. It’s beneficial for children who have mild dental anxiety. Using laughing gas sedation can help your child experience a sense of well-being and relaxation during the dental visit, so that he or she will respond more positively.

Treatment under General Anesthesia

General Anesthesia is administered at a different facility (Accredited Non-Hospital Surgical Facility) with a Licensed Medical Anesthesiologist. General anesthesia is for children with severe dental fear and anxiety who cannot cope with multiple dental appointments. This will require consultation with your physician.
